UK Parliament Thesauri

The thesauri are created and maintained to support the search and indexing work of Parliament. The dataset contains

  • Concepts (broad and narrow subject terms, including Parliamentary procedural terms)
  • Content types (material types)
  • Legislation names (Bills and Acts)
  • Names (members of the UK and European Parliament, and other names of newsworthy people)
  • Organisations (UK and worldwide bodies)
  • and a high-level Taxonomy used on the Parliamentary website for public access to material.

Each entry is made up of a lead term (descriptor), and can include synonyms, and relationships. The thesauri undergo constant revision as new issues, organisations, names and legislation are discussed in Parliament.

Thesauri Search

This provides a user interface which allows you to search terms used within Parliament using multiple filters. Selecting this option will show you the first few records from the dataset and then allow you to select data from the dataset by filtering on any of the attributes for the term. You will then be able to download or display the data in the following formats: CSV (e.g. for use in Microsoft Excel), TTL, Text, XML, JSON or RDF (e.g. for developers)

Thesauri API

Developers can build API calls using the explorer tool. Help for the APIs can be found at http://explore.data.parliament.uk/?learnmore=Thesaurus

Thesauri Atom feed

The feed contains the 20 most recent resources for terms. This format is mainly for developers. You can refer to http://api.data.parliament.uk/help for help on the syntax for atom feed requests.
